Frequently Asked Questions!
One of the most frequently asked questions I receive is, “Why don’t you have Frequently Asked Questions on your website?” So to answer that one now, for the first time ever, here they are! Enjoy and please send along any questions you don’t see answered below.
Can I Invest with canny capital?
Yes.
How much should i invest?
more important than what you start with is what you save over time. commit to saving!
when should i start investing?
as soon as you possibly can! just two words: compound interest.
what is the main function of the service you offer?
i manage separate investment accounts for individuals by choosing investments, typically stocks, and purchasing them directly for clients’ accounts. i aim to give you a good place to save, motivate you to save more, and put your savings to work for you.
my brother-in-law is an adviser. how are you different from him?
I am completely independent as an adviser, and i do my own research. i am able, and eager, to serve clients at any point in their savings journey, especially at early stages when account balances tend to be smaller. think your account is too small to work with me? think again! but be ready to save more once you get started!
what returns do your clients see?
past performance is no guarantee or indication of future results. but i will make sensible investment recommendations and purchases for your account based on my current judgment of price versus value. what was a buy for a client twelve months ago, for example, might be a hold for them today, but not a buy for you, starting a new account.
isn’t the market supposed to crash soon?
hasn’t it already? major indexes are down double-digit percentages in 2022. no one truly knows what the market will do in the future. being invested and adding gradually to your holdings over time is far more important, and achievable, than ‘timing’ the market.
what should i do with my 401k at my old job?
great question! that is a complicated question dependent upon many factors unique to your financial situation. with a consultation we can start to discern what is in your best interest.
how much time does it take to get started?
a new client meeting and consultation takes at least one hour, but can often require a second meeting of 30-60 minutes to fully create and implement the new investment account. You can make these meetings with me in person or virtually. i do not charge by the hour so our interests are aligned in patiently working through the process.
how do you charge, then?
my fee is based on the value of your account that i manage. please see my form adv for more information about my fees and investment practice.
what else have you got going on?
thanks for asking! as of may 2022, brushing up my jazz piano, volunteering as a citibike angel, and trying to get together with friends and family as much as possible.
